Six Steps to a Dry, Usable Space in Your Basement

You may have noticed water in your basement but did not know exactly how to get rid of it.  If your basement is taking in water, it is not going to go away on its own and will only lead to other issues such as mold growth, wood rot, and damage to any valuables you have stored in your basement. Installing a sump pump and waterproofing system is the least disruptive and most effective way to keep a basement dry - and keep it dry all the time!  Ultimately, for a waterproofing system to eliminate the water issues wreaking havoc in your basement, there are 6 steps that need to be taken.  This is where our waterproofing experts come in to provide the most logical solutions that allow you to begin enjoying your basement again.

Wet basement before waterproofing system is installed

A sump pump can be an incredibly valuable resource in your home and choosing the correct location for the pit is very important for it to function properly.  The sump pit should not be excavated just anywhere and needs to be deep enough in order to pump out the water at an appropriate and efficient rate.  We ensure that our sump pump pits are excavated for the liner and pump to be placed inside to protect against mud and debris around the pump pit.

Another step in ensuring that the sump pump stays clean is to backfill clean gravel around the sump pump liner, which prevent silt and sediment from entering the liner.  Our goal is to keep your pump as clean as possible, so it continues to do its job of keeping water out of your basement. An airtight sump pump lid keeps odors and humidity from escaping the sump pit, while also preventing items and debris from falling in from the basement floor.

 Gravel Backfill

The Sump Pump itself is not the only hero in removing the water that your basement is taking in.  All effective and reliable basement waterproofing systems need a perimeter French Drain system, but only interior drainage systems such as WaterGuard® will completely resolve you basement issues.  WaterGuard’s role in the waterproofing process is to collect water from the basement wall-floor joint, basement walls, and under the basement floor, and direct it to the installed sump pump.  This patented product has been keeping basements dry since 1987.

To help ensure better drainage and a more reliable system, the trench that was dug for the WaterGuard drainage system must be sealed back over with concrete.  Once the concrete dries, you are left with a clean, neat, and professional basement repair.  The restoration of the concrete floor allows you to not worry about the drainage system becoming clogged with dirt and debris.

We take pride in putting the final touches on your basement waterproofing system installations and clean up like we were never there. Dust is cleaned from the basement floor and/or walls, while the discharge line for the drainage system is inspected to be sure that the water is leaving your basement for good.

Basement Waterproofing

The last step to waterproofing and transforming your basement is to consider upgrading your walls with our CleanSpace® Vapor Barrier.  You no longer need to have storage shelfs blocking those ugly, concrete basement walls.  CleanSpace not only brightens up your basement walls, it provides protection against moisture from passing through, creating humidity issues.  Upgrading your basement walls is just another way to add energy efficiency, beauty, and comfort to your home.
