A homeowner in Portland, Indiana was concerned about the stability of his home's foundation after noticing a few large cracks in the exterior. The cracks had seemed to worsen over time, which prompted the home owner to begin reaching out to reliable foundation repair companies that could permanently resolve the issue. We sent out one of our certified inspectors to meet with the homeowner and inspect the foundation to determine the extent of repairs.
During the inspection, it was determined that there were also cracks inside the home in the drywall in addition to the exterior foundation cracks. These are both signs that the soil around the exterior of the home had settled. We proposed installing Helical Piers to stabilize the home and attempt to lift it back to it's original level. A major challenge to this installation was a deck that extended around a portion of the home. Before the pier installation could begin, the homeowner needed to have the deck temporarily removed to allow for excavation around the foundation.
Our crew installed a total of 6 helical piers in the back of the home to provide permanent stabilization of the soil. The helical plates help to pull the pier into the soil during installation and provide anchoring strength as the weight of the foundation or structural element is transferred to the pier. After the piers were installed, our crew backfilled the soil around the home.
