This homeowner in Shirley, Indiana was concerned about the condition of his crawl space after noticing a musty smell in his home. He began searching for reliable companies online and reached out to Basement Systems of Indiana for a free crawl space estimate to see what improvements could be made. Our Sales Inspector Jay went out to the home to provide a thorough estimate of the crawl space to determine what was causing the humidity and musty smell.
During the inspection, Jay's process included walking around the property first to identify any noticeable issues that could be causing water to leak in or any possible foundation problems such as settling or cracks. While in the crawl space, Jay pointed out moisture build up on the ground and walls due to a poor vapor barrier that was installed previously. Having a thicker vapor barrier installed acting as an encapsulation system will prevent moisture from passing through the ground and walls. Having a sump pump installed would also remove any water from the crawl space and keep it as dry as possible.
Our Foreman Joe and his crew members Brian and Isaac removed the existing vapor barrier in the crawl space and installed an encapsulation system consisting of CleanSpace vapor barrier and SilverGlo thermal wall insulation. The crew also installed a SmartSump pump to protect the craw space from potential flooding during heavy rains. With these major upgrades, the homeowner's crawl space will not be a much cleaner and healthier environment.
